CITY OF SMITHVILLE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

Mission:   Smithville is a friendly small town, connected to a beautiful lake with a vibrant outdoor life, and minutes away from urban conveniences.  We strive to serve and maintain current businesses, and incubate new entrepreneur spirit, while promoting the strengths of our community to attract new businesses and residents.

VisionMake Smithville the KC areas destination for outdoor recreation, seasonal special events, and unique shopping.  Highway 169 will function as Smithville's main commercial corridor, as residents and visitors travel north and south, to and from Kansas City and the community of Smithville.  All the modern conveniences will be situated along this easily accessible artery through town.  This access and high volume traffic, will be leveraged, to attract larger retailers, restaurants and other suitable commercial enterprises.  Smithville, Missouri will serve as the crossroads of the northland, tying together the residential and business communities of Kearney and Platte City, while developing as a key business and shopping district in its own right. As Smithville continues to grow and prosper, it will do so in a balanced manner, all the while retaining our cherished small town atmosphere, with our historic downtown at its heart.  Situated on the west edge of Smithville Lake, and located just 10 minutes from Kansas City International airport, and 20 minutes from downtown Kansas City, Smithville is the place to work, play, and live.
